there on the world
they sit closed and tight
as dormice
with traffic zooming
around them
whup...........whup............look
even my mother ..................
with that................look it shines
I approach them carefully
with embraces
............................to sweep them back
they are skitterish as dustbowls
—gone wild around me
but damn it anyway that
they have come back to me
in such shuddering beds of soft acid
that
nothing but the old cries
to be with them through all nights
nothing now ....................but that
.
.
This is just too delicious
ReplyDeletezecca
There is definitely such a thing as too delicious.
ReplyDeleteI know, I've tasted it.
ReplyDeletezecca
No one but me and Alfie have ever tasted helicopter yoghurt.
ReplyDeletehaha! That's yours. I have own
ReplyDelete'too delicious' moments with my children.

Is helicopter yoghurt nicer than raspberry then? Surely not!
ReplyDeleteAmanda
Hey, look who's here! Anyway, raspberry yoghurt isn't very nice really. And helicopter yoghurt was actually apricot yoghurt, but being about three years old at the time Alfie wasn't a very accomplished pronounciator of woyds and somehow got the two all bemungled.
ReplyDeleteNice to see you, btw!
Steve.
Thanks for the welcome! I hadn't realised that helicopter yoghurt was actually apricopter yoghurt - I thought it was describing the way that it flew about the room as if off rotor blades. That aside, these lines:
ReplyDeletenothing but the old cries

nothing now ...............but that
are so poignant they make me go 'aargh' and I don't even have children. Trademark SP then - saying so much in so few words. Think you hit the spot.
Amanda
Thanks, Amanda. Glad it got somewhere. Nice to talk to someone with a real name too!
ReplyDeleteSteve.
